Dirty Dancing

This 1987 flick starring Jennifer Grey and the oh-so-dreamy Patrick Swayze brought the musical movie back to life.  Baby (Grey) is vacationing at a summer camp and falls for the camp dance instructor, Johnny (Swayze).  This forbidden romance is frowned upon by her family who expects better things from Baby, a “good girl.”

Her infatuation with Johnny leads her to lie to her father in order to get money to pay for an illegal abortion for Johnny’s dance partner.  In the meantime Baby steps in as Johnny’s dance partner and the two grow and learn together.  Johnny teaches Baby how to really dance and Baby teaches Johnny about his life and aspirations.  However, when the abortion is botched, Baby runs to her physician father for help.  This drives a wedge between Baby and Johnny.  However, the movie has a wonderful ending with an epic dance sequence.

The sequel, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, isn’t nearly as good as its namesake.  However, it does offer a good change of pace and is still worth watching for those who loved the first one.

So Havana Nights was really a sequel. I guess it make sense with the title. I never knew that fact.
